MY SON HOI AN
My Son Hoi An is one of the most popular destinations for tourists travelling in Central Vietnam. What makes My Son Hoi An so special is the unique history it has to offer giving a glimpse into the history of Vietnam. A historical site for religious ceremonies of the Kings of the dynasty of Champa, the ruins of My Son dates back to the 4th century.
Travelling to My Son Hoi An
My Son Sanctuary is located 37 km outside of Hoi An, roughly a 1 hour journey. There are many modes of transport available when travelling between My Son Hoi An: the most popular available are shuttle bus, taxi, motorbike and private car. You also have the option of exploring My Son alone or with a guide. The tours with guides are available for both group and private.
Travelling by motorbike:
Cost: a motorbike can be rented for between $8-10USD per day, more depending on the quality
Pros: You can spend as long at My Son as you like.
Cons: The roads can be quite difficult to manoeuvre. You will also have no guide through My Son which is recommended to truly experience it properly. Not recommended for older people or those inexperienced on a motorbike.
Group Tour by shuttle:
Cost: There are group tours available from as little as $10USD (not including My Son entry fee) and upwards depending on group size and tour quality.
Pros: Cheaper than Taxi and includes a guide
Cons: Groups can be quite large and you may not be able to hear the guide well. You can also not choose your time of departure and amount of time spent at My Son Sanctuary.
Private Car with Guide (recommended):
Cost: Prices on a private car will vary, seeing as there are many options catering for groups from 1-24 people and both with/without a guide. A tour with high quality private car, English speaking guide and pickup/drop off to My Son Hoi An costs $37USD per person.
Pros: You can decide pick up and drop off time from your hotel. You choose your group size and vehicle type. You will have a knowledgeable guide on the history of My Son Sanctuary and experienced driver. Travel insurance and bottled water included.
